3 Financing No No’s

August 5, 2013 |  Article By :

mortgage appMaybe this is your first time applying for a mortgage or maybe it has just been a while since you last applied for a mortgage, but there are some important things to remember. Aside from having your credit in order, there are three things you should avoid when trying to get financing.

  • You don’t have a credit card. You need a credit card as part of your credit portfolio. Get a credit card, charge a few things on it and pay it off in full each month.
  • The offer has been accepted on the home you want to buy, do not switch or quit your job until after you close on the home! The bank may very well check on your job status right up until closing. They want to see a stable person with a stable income. Even if you move to a better job, they will view you as an unstable person.
  • Don’t go on a buying spree. Once you have applied for a mortgage, unless it is absolutely necessary, refrain from buying big ticket items such as a new car, furniture, etc. The additional debt may throw of your debt to income ratio.
